I decided not to deal with Chicago traffic and to pick up Route 66 via Joliet. Got Chicago traffic anyway *lol*. Still, as I headed out and turned on the radio, would you believe "Born to be Wild" was the song playing! Put me right into the mood.
I got a late start and made it nearly to Springfield, but it was dark and I chose not to spend my first night figuring out old gear I haven't used for several years, and new gear I've never used yet, in the dark and so stopped at a little motel along the way.
Got funny looks as I brought my bike into my room :)
Walked the "Memory Lane" in Towanda/Lexington. Very kewl (see url: http://www.digitalroute66.com/lexington/)
Had a late but great start to my US/Canada tour!
